About the Porsche 911 Carrera 997

Production: 2004–2008
Cylinders: 6
Powertrain: Combustion

The Porsche 911 Carrera 997, part of the fifth generation of the iconic 911 lineup, was produced between 2004 and 2012 (model years 2005-2012). Approximately 213,000 units were manufactured across all variants during its production run, making it less rare than some earlier 911 generations but still desirable among collectors for its balance of modern engineering and classic Porsche design. The 997 Carrera base model featured a 3.6-liter flat-six engine, producing 325 horsepower, while the Carrera S offered a 3.8-liter version with 355 horsepower. Performance highlights include a 0-60 mph time of around 4.8 seconds for the Carrera S with a top speed nearing 182 mph.

For exotic car collectors, the 997 holds appeal due to its historical significance as a return to a more rounded, classic 911 aesthetic after the controversial 996 design. Special editions like the 997 GT3 RS and Turbo models are particularly sought after, with limited production numbers and track-focused engineering. Value trends show steady appreciation, especially for low-mileage examples and manual transmission variants, as the 997 is often seen as one of the last analog-feeling 911s before the shift to more digital systems in later generations.
