The first-generation Aston Martin V12 Vanquish was introduced in 2001 as the company’s flagship grand tourer. Designed by Ian Callum and developed from the 1998 Project Vantage concept, it combined aluminum body panels with a bonded-aluminum and carbon-fiber structure. Its 5.9-liter naturally aspirated V12 produced 460 bhp and drove the rear wheels through a six-speed electrohydraulically operated automated-manual transmission. The Vanquish was offered with either two seats or a 2+2 configuration and appeared as James Bond’s car in the 2002 film Die Another Day.
The Vanquish S arrived in 2004 with 520 bhp, revised aerodynamics, upgraded brakes, firmer suspension and a claimed top speed exceeding 200 mph. Production ended in July 2007 with the final 50 Vanquish S Ultimate Edition cars, marking the end of automobile manufacturing at Aston Martin’s historic Newport Pagnell factory. Aston Martin confirms that 1,489 original Vanquish models were built, while marque production records document 1,086 Vanquish S models, giving a best-supported combined production total of 2,575 cars.
