About the McLaren 650S Spider

Production: 2014–2017
Cylinders: 8
Powertrain: Combustion
Body: Convertible

The McLaren 650S Spider, produced between 2014 and 2017, is a high-performance convertible supercar from McLaren Automotive. As part of the 650S lineup, it replaced the 12C Spider and was manufactured in limited numbers, with approximately 1,000 units produced across all 650S variants (coupe and spider combined), making it a relatively rare model for collectors. Exact Spider production figures are not publicly disclosed, adding to its exclusivity.

Powered by a 3.8-liter twin-turbocharged V8 engine (M838T), the 650S Spider delivers 641 horsepower and 500 lb-ft of torque, paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission. It achieves 0-60 mph in 2.9 seconds and a top speed of 204 mph (roof up), showcasing impressive performance for its era. The retractable hardtop, operable at speeds up to 19 mph, enhances its appeal as a versatile exotic car. For collectors, the 650S Spider holds value due to its rarity, McLaren’s motorsport heritage, and its position as a bridge between the 12C and later models like the 720S. Special editions, such as the MSO variants, further elevate interest, with well-maintained examples seeing stable or appreciating values in the exotic car market.
