Ferrari's Last Naturally Aspirated V8 Special Series: 2026 Market Report on the Challenge Stradale, 430 Scuderia and 458 Speciale
Sophia Chen, Senior Market Research Analyst, Exotics Group By Sophia Chen, Senior Market Research Analyst, Exotics Group

Ferrari's last naturally aspirated V8 "special series" cars, the 360 Challenge Stradale, the 430 Scuderia and Scuderia Spider 16M, and the 458 Speciale and Speciale A, produced at least 12 public sales of $1 million or more in 2026. This report sets out the auction results, dealer asking prices, production figures and year-over-year medians behind that.

Why this category, and why now

Ferrari's "special series" are the lighter, more powerful, track-focused versions of its mid-engine V8 berlinettas. Three generations of them used naturally aspirated engines: the 360 Challenge Stradale (2003), the 430 Scuderia (2007) with its open Scuderia Spider 16M, and the 458 Speciale (2013) with its open Speciale A.

Ferrari's V8s have all been turbocharged since then. The 488 GTB, the California T and every Ferrari V8 since have used turbochargers (Ferrari FL). The current V8 flagship, the 849 Testarossa, pairs a 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 rated at 830 cv with three electric motors, for a combined 1,050 cv (Ferrari).

The timing comes from 2026's auction calendar. Mecum's Kissimmee sale in January and Monterey Car Week in August produced the highest 2026 results for all three generations. More results have come in through mid-October, and RM Sotheby's has a Challenge Stradale scheduled for its London sale on October 31.

The cars at a glance

Production totals are only partly documented. Ferrari publicly confirmed the 499-unit limits for the Scuderia Spider 16M and the 458 Speciale A. The other totals come from auction-house catalogues and have not been published by the factory.

Kissimmee: the January benchmarks

The $3.08 million Speciale A at Mecum Kissimmee was lot S164. Its lot description calls it one of 499 built, with a factory plaque identifying it as the last one produced. Its original owners, the Bachmans, specified it through Ferrari's personalisation department in Giallo Triplo Strato with a Blu Nart and Bianco Italia livery (CLASSIC.COM).

At the same sale, the 375-mile Challenge Stradale brought $1.87 million and the 125-mile 430 Scuderia brought $1.65 million (Glenmarch).

Monterey: depth across all three generations

RM Sotheby's sold a 1,332-mile Bianco Avus 458 Speciale for $1,490,000. It also sold a Nero 430 Scuderia with tan leather, delivered new by Ferrari of Beverly Hills, for $1,352,500 (RM Sotheby's, lot 309; RM Sotheby's, lot 347).

Gooding Christie's sold a 2,297-mile Speciale without reserve for $1,022,500, against a $900,000–$1,200,000 estimate (Gooding Christie's).

At Mecum, a 12,914-mile Scuderia Spider 16M sold for $1,001,000. Hagerty noted that these cars were "selling for around half a million dollars" a year earlier (Hagerty).

The wider week was strong too. K500 reports that the four international auction houses grossed a combined $641.6 million during Monterey Week, compared with the previous record of $419.2 million in 2022 (K500).

Year-over-year medians

Single record sales show where the top of the market is. Medians show what a typical example sells for. DriveIndex publishes calendar-year medians of verified USD auction sales for each model year. Its 12-month change figures compare the median of the past 12 months with the median of the 12 months before that.

Line chart of calendar-year median auction sale prices from 2021 to 2026: 458 Speciale rising from $467,000 in 2023 to $1.02 million in 2026, 360 Challenge Stradale from $275,000 in 2023 to $775,000, and 430 Scuderia from $228,000 in 2023 to $653,000
Calendar-year median auction sale by model year. Data: DriveIndex verified USD auction sales, retrieved Oct 19, 2026. Chart: Exotics Group.

458 Speciale (2015)$769,000$1,019,500 (8)+35.6%

DriveIndex points out that its medians shift with the mileage and specification of the cars that come to market, as well as with prices themselves (360 CS, 430 Scuderia 2008, 430 Scuderia 2009, 458 Speciale).

Motivyn uses a different sample: the 30 most recent 458 Speciale auction sales, from October 2022 to October 2026. On that basis it reports a median of $796,938, with the middle half of sales between $621,500 and $1,102,375 (Motivyn).

Against the original sticker

Compared on DriveIndex's figures, the 2026 calendar-year medians are 3.9 times the original MSRP for the Challenge Stradale, 2.8 times for the 2008 430 Scuderia and 3.5 times for the 458 Speciale. These multiples are not adjusted for inflation.

Grouped bar chart comparing original MSRP with 2026 median auction sale: 360 Challenge Stradale $196,500 vs $775,000 (3.9x), 430 Scuderia $233,517 vs $653,000 (2.8x), 458 Speciale $291,744 vs $1,019,500 (3.5x)

The special-series premium over the base cars

The standard F430 and 458 Italia have also risen, though from lower bases and by different amounts. DriveIndex's comparison data (through mid-October 2026):

Recent sales of the base cars give a sense of scale. In October, 458 Italias sold for between $250,000 and $440,000, and F430 coupés and Spiders for between $143,000 and $184,000. A manual 2006 F430 Spider with 12,000 miles sold on Bring a Trailer on October 2 for $600,000 (Marque).

The mid-market: where most cars trade

Below the trophy lots, 2026 sales of higher-mileage driver cars cluster in a narrower range.

  • 430 Scuderia: since June, DriveIndex records USD sales of $522,900 (14,837 mi), $538,500 (25,454 mi), $598,500 (23,902 mi), $661,500 (18,235 mi), $702,450 (14,167 mi), $709,800 (11,575 mi), $742,350 (11,997 mi) and $765,000 (20,229 mi).
  • 360 Challenge Stradale: since June, $616,350 (31,805 mi), $625,800 (28,037 mi), $775,000 (17,000 mi and 20,000 mi) and $800,000 (11,000 mi). A 14,066-mile car sold for €535,000 on October 9.
  • 458 Speciale: since June, $920,000 (11,000 mi), $1,016,500 (10,000 mi) and $1,129,000 (4,100 mi) on Bring a Trailer. In Europe, RM Sotheby's sold one for €680,000 in July.

DriveIndex lists one lower 2026 result, a $395,850 Speciale sale on May 22 with 8,121 miles. The source does not give the venue or the circumstances.

Supply: dealer inventory and upcoming lots

For the 458 Speciale, the lowest dealer asking price is above the model's 2026 auction median. For the Challenge Stradale, the lowest asks are slightly below its 2026 median.

ModelListings trackedAsking rangeAs of

The eight lowest published Speciale asks, from dealers including Ferrari of Seattle, Ferrari Lake Forest and Ferrari Silicon Valley, range from $1,349,160 to $1,399,995 for cars with 4,071–11,919 miles. Listed Challenge Stradales include cars at Cavallino Rosso St. Louis ($699,890, 31,812 mi), Ferrari of Central Florida ($899,895, 15,033 mi) and Desert European Motorcars ($909,990, 14,478 mi). What separates results within the group

Here is what the 2026 lot descriptions and results show about price differences between cars:

  • Body style and production count. The three highest 2026 results were all open-top Speciale As ($2.125M–$3.08M), the 499-unit variant. The two seven-figure Scuderia Spider 16M sales ($1.001M and $1.05M) are also from a 499-unit run.
  • Mileage. Each model's top 2026 result came from a car with very low mileage: 58 mi (Speciale A), 375 mi (Challenge Stradale) and 125 mi (430 Scuderia). Within the 458 Speciale coupés, the 1,332-mile RM car brought $1.49M and the 10,000–11,000-mile Bring a Trailer cars brought $920,000–$1,016,500.
  • Specification and provenance. Catalogue descriptions for the top lots highlight personalisation-programme colours, stripes, a signed engine bay, a "last produced" plaque, and full books, window stickers and service records.

Key takeaways

  • At least 12 public sales of this group reached $1 million or more in 2026. The highest was $3.08 million for a 58-mile 458 Speciale A at Mecum Kissimmee.
  • DriveIndex's 12-month median change is +127.6% for the 2004 Challenge Stradale, +106.6% for the 430 Scuderia and +35.6% for the 458 Speciale.
  • In percentage terms, the special series have outpaced their base cars on DriveIndex's figures. The 430 Scuderia's change (+106.6%) is more than double the F430's (+44.7%). The 458 Speciale (+35.6%) and 458 Italia (+34.2%) moved by similar amounts.
  • Dealer asks for the 458 Speciale start at $1.35M across 17 listings, above its 2026 auction median of $1,019,500. Challenge Stradale asks start at $699,890, against a 2026 median of $775,000.
  • The next scheduled data point is RM Sotheby's London on October 31, 2026: a 14,925-km Challenge Stradale estimated at £500,000–£600,000.

Methodology and data notes

  • All prices are as reported by the auction house, marketplace or aggregator, including buyer's premium. Non-USD results are shown in their original currency.
  • Annual medians and 12-month changes come from DriveIndex and depend on the mix of cars sold. The aggregators (DriveIndex, Motivyn, Marque) track different sets of sales, so their medians differ.
  • Ferrari has not published production totals for the 360 Challenge Stradale, 430 Scuderia or 458 Speciale coupé. The figures shown are from auction catalogues.
  • Some aggregator records conflict, for example over the price and date of a January 2026 Mecum Speciale A result. Those results are left out of this report. Mileage figures follow the auction catalogue where one was available.
