About the McLaren 720S Spider

Production: 2018–2023
Cylinders: 8
Powertrain: Combustion
Body: Convertible

The McLaren 720S Spider, introduced in 2019 as part of the McLaren Super Series, is a convertible variant of the 720S coupe, produced alongside it until 2023. While exact production numbers are not publicly disclosed, estimates suggest fewer than 2,000 units of the Spider were made, contributing to its rarity among exotic car collectors. It is powered by a 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V8 engine (M840T), delivering 710 horsepower and 568 lb-ft of torque, paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission. Performance highlights include a 0-60 mph time of 2.8 seconds and a top speed of 212 mph (roof up) or 202 mph (roof down).

A standout feature for collectors is the electrochromic glass roof panel, which can switch between tinted and transparent modes, a unique innovation at the time. The 720S Spider also offers a lightweight carbon-fiber structure, enhancing its appeal in the supercar market. Value trends indicate strong appreciation due to limited production and McLaren's reputation for engineering excellence, with well-maintained examples often retaining or increasing in value. Special editions, such as bespoke MSO (McLaren Special Operations) configurations, further elevate its desirability among enthusiasts seeking exclusivity.
