The Aston Martin DBS was unveiled as a production model in 2007 and entered customer production for the 2008 model year. Based on Aston Martin’s VH aluminum architecture and derived from the DB9, it served as the company’s flagship grand tourer and replaced the Vanquish S. Its front-mounted 5.9-liter naturally aspirated V12 produced 510 bhp and 420 lb-ft of torque, driving the rear wheels through a six-speed manual transmission or an optional six-speed Touchtronic 2 automatic. Aston Martin quoted a 0-to-62-mph time of 4.3 seconds and a top speed of 191 mph. Carbon-fiber body panels, carbon-ceramic brakes and adaptive dampers helped distinguish the DBS from the DB9.
Aston Martin added the convertible DBS Volante in 2009, pairing the same V12 with a power-operated fabric roof. The DBS also appeared in the James Bond films Casino Royale and Quantum of Solace, while special versions included the Carbon Black, Carbon Edition and final Ultimate edition. Production ended in 2012 as the second-generation Vanquish took over Aston Martin’s flagship role. Published production research records approximately 2,534 DBS coupés and 845 DBS Volantes, for a combined total of about 3,379 cars.
