The Porsche 911 Carrera S (997 generation) was produced from 2004 to 2012, marking the fifth iteration of the iconic 911 lineup. As part of the 997.1 (2004-2008) and 997.2 (2009-2012) phases, Porsche manufactured approximately 213,000 units of the 997 generation across all variants, with the Carrera S being a popular performance model. Specific production numbers for the Carrera S are not publicly detailed, but its prevalence among enthusiasts suggests a significant share of the total.
The Carrera S initially featured a 3.8-liter flat-six engine in the 997.1, producing 355 horsepower, later upgraded to 385 horsepower in the 997.2 with direct fuel injection. It achieves 0-60 mph in around 4.5 seconds (manual transmission) and a top speed of approximately 182 mph. A key highlight for collectors is the availability of limited editions like the Carrera S Powerkit, offering enhanced performance. The 997 is historically significant as the last 911 generation to widely offer a manual transmission across trims. Value trends show steady appreciation, especially for low-mileage, manual examples, with prices often ranging from $40,000 to $70,000 USD depending on condition and provenance, making it a desirable entry point for exotic car collectors.
