About the Lamborghini Diablo

Production: 1990–2001
Est. units built: 2,884
Cylinders: 12
Powertrain: Combustion

The Lamborghini Diablo, produced from 1990 to 2001, is an iconic supercar that succeeded the Countach and marked a significant era for Lamborghini under Chrysler’s ownership initially, and later Audi. Approximately 2,884 units were built across various trims, making it relatively rare and highly sought after by exotic car collectors. It was named after a fierce fighting bull, reflecting Lamborghini’s tradition of bull-inspired nomenclature.

Equipped with a mid-mounted V12 engine, the Diablo initially offered a 5.7-liter variant producing 492 horsepower, later upgraded to a 6.0-liter version with up to 550 horsepower in models like the Diablo VT 6.0. Performance highlights include a top speed exceeding 200 mph (320 km/h) and a 0-60 mph time of around 4 seconds. Notable features include its scissor doors, a hallmark of Lamborghini’s V12 lineup, and all-wheel-drive options in VT models. Special editions, such as the limited-run Diablo SE30 (150 units) commemorating Lamborghini’s 30th anniversary, are particularly prized for their exclusivity and historical significance. Values have risen steadily, with well-maintained examples often fetching over $300,000 at auctions, driven by rarity and its status as a 1990s supercar icon.
